Moree council staff save toddlers from burning vehicle

THE quick-thinking action of two Moree Plains Shire Council employees has saved the lives of two toddlers caught inside a burning vehicle at Boggabilla last week.

Outdoor staff members Steve Moloney and Ashley Jarrett were on litter patrol along Racecourse Road in Boggabilla when they noticed smoke billowing from a nearby property.

Mr Moloney and Mr Jarrett rushed to the property and discovered two unaccompanied toddlers inside a smouldering vehicle, pulling them free before the vehicle was engulfed by flames.

Moree Plains Shire Council’s Boggabilla foreman Dan Crotty said Mr Moloney’s and Mr Jarrett’s actions saved the siblings from a situation that could have ended much differently.

Miraculously, no-one was injured.

“Steve and Ashley were in the right place, at the right time, and their investigation of the incident and swift action saved the children’s lives,” Mr Crotty said.

“Their selfless bravery ensured these children were not harmed in any way.

“I am very proud of their actions,” Mr Crotty said.
