Warialda Toy Library secures $17,985 to aid expansion
THE toy library in Warialda is already a bustling little centre for local families and now, thanks to $17,985 state government grant, the outside area is about to get a major overhaul, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced today.
Mr Marshall delivered the good news to toy librarian Erin Hall and council staff recently and said Gwydir Shire Council had applied for the funding through the Community Building Partnership program.
“I’m delighted this funding has come through – it’s a great outcome and I was more than pleased to support the council in its application,” Mr Marshall said.
“It’s a very popular centre which is why it’s important the government show support and continue to financially assist these small community facilities.”
Mr Marshall said Gwydir Shire Council would now resurface and fence the cark park and provide a shaded outside area for play.
“They also hope to install a toilet and change area in the toy library and ensure it has disability access,” he said.
“A shaded play area is a must in this climate and its installation will provide children with more opportunities to play outside.
“It’s a wonderful spot as it provides the perfect environment for local young people to learn and have fun.”
Toy librarian Erin Hall said the centre was open four days a week and its presence had helped revitalise the town library precinct.
“It’s a great community hub for mothers who might sometimes feel isolated when they have a young family,” Mrs Hall said.
“The children love visiting here, it helps them bond with other children which is very important for them before heading off to preschool.”
