Safety and productivity boost for Parkes Electorate/bridges renewal projects get go-ahead

THE Australian Government has today announced infrastructure projects to be funded in the Parkes Electorate to improve productivity and safety outcomes for local heavy vehicles.

Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton, said the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Programme will provide $120 million to NSW projects, including more than $26 million in the Electorate of Parkes.

“After a competitive merit-based selection process, Australian Government funding has been approved for seven local projects,” Mr Coulton said.

“The Australian Government is committed to making heavy vehicle operations more productive and safer for all road users.

“The Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Programme will deliver $200 million in new funding from 2014–15 to 2018–19.

“Along with the Australian Government’s $2.1 billion Roads to Recovery, $500 million Black Spot and $300 million Bridges Renewal programmes, we are making a real difference to local community needs.”

The following projects will receive funding up to a maximum of 50 per cent of the total project cost under the Australian Government Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity programme:

  • $1,146,000 for road upgrade of Mosquito Creek Road to the Gil Gil Creek Intersection with Gwydir Shire Council.
  • $600,000 for New Rest Area – Mitchell Hwy Trangie with Narromine Shire Council.
  • $1,608,000 for Road upgrade – Widen and seal, Croppa Moree Rd, 45km NE of Moree with Moree Plains Shire Council.
  • $1,296,000 for Road Upgrade – Reconstruction and widening of Dandaloo Rd, Albert with Lachlan Shire Council.
  • $420,000 to Improve Rest Stop Route Signage – Various Far North West Hwys with NSW State Government.
  • $47,590,000 for HV Safety and Productivity Package – Golden Hwy – Muswellbrook – Dunedoo with NSW State Government.
  • $400,000 for Green Reflector Sites – on the Kidman Way, Gwydir, Kamilaroi and Mitchell highways, North West NSW with NSW State Government.

TODAY I welcome the much-needed upgrade to local bridges under the Australian Government’s new $300 million Bridges Renewal Programme, said Federal Member for Parkes, Mark Coulton.

The Abbott/Truss Government is committing $28.5 million – matched by proponents – to 29 projects across New South Wales as part of Round One of the Bridges Renewal Programme.

“The injection of more than $3 million to upgrade our local bridges will make using them safer and more reliable, while also being a huge fillip for freight providing major benefits for the community and the region,” Mr Coulton said.

Today, the Australian Government has committed $28.5 million under Round One of the programme, with a total commitment of $300 million over five years from 2014-15 for the entire programme.
