Police search for escapees from Brewarrina correctional centre

Police are appealing for the public to not approach three men who escaped from a correctional centre in the state’s west overnight.
Andrew Fernando, 22; Greg Walford, 20; and Dean Boney, 20, were last seen about 2.40am today (Saturday 13 August 2016) at the minimum-security correctional centre south of Brewarrina.
The three men threatened a correctional officer working in the administration building with knives, a hammer and a screwdriver.

Taking several items the trio stole a Toyota Landcruiser from the facility and were last seen heading north towards Brewarrina.

That vehicle was involved in short pursuit with police on Arthur Hall Way before the erratic manner of driving forced the pursuit to be terminated due to safety concerns.

The Toyota continued towards Walgett where it was involved in another short pursuit about 3.45am today which was also terminated due to safety concerns.

Police from Darling River Local Area Command have advised the public not to approach them but instead to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.
All three men are described as being of Aboriginal appearance, wearing black pants and orange high visibility work jackets when last seen and were serving sentences for aggravated break and enter offences.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have information about the three men or the vehicle to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
