NAIDOC Week initiative: Preserving Aboriginal languages grants
Community language projects will be funded to help more people learn, practice and teach Aboriginal languages in NSW.
The six projects, part of the Our Languages, Our Way grants, were launched as part of NAIDOC week celebrations and aim to develop community owned resources, including dictionaries and videos, to support Aboriginal people protect and promote their languages.
Aboriginal Affairs Minister Leslie Williams said the grants will help expand knowledge of Aboriginal language and culture in our communities.
“These grants will support a range of community driven activities designed to empower and inspire a new generation of speakers,” Mrs Williams said.
The theme of this year’s NAIDOC week is Songlines – the living narrative of our nation.
