Mungindi hub Loo-king at new amenities thanks to $110K grant
THE Mungindi Showground and racecourse is set for a major upgrade of its antiquated toilet facilities thanks to a $110,000 grant from the State Government, announced on Tuesday by Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall.
Mr Marshall said the NSW Stronger Country Communities funding would see male toilets at the showground’s main amenities block replaced and a brand new toilet block constructed in the centre of the racecourse, adjacent to the equine arena.
“The Showground and racecourse is a major community hub for the people of Mungindi, bringing them together for major events, including the annual show, thoroughbred races and other sporting events,” Mr Marshall said.
“The existing amenities are old and failing, costing the showground users lots of money in maintenance but also causing inconvenience to people using them.
“It is really important to the community to provide upgrade amenities here to ensure people have a great day out at the show or the races.
“I’m excited about this funding and the difference it will make in the Mungindi community.”
Mungindi Show Society President Stacey Garsed said the funding was a huge win for those attending the annual show and other big events at the showground.
“Some of our toilet facilities are quite run down and really not up to standard,” Ms Garsed said.
“The show has really thrived over the past few years and to have facilities that are modern and comfortable is really something that we could be proud of.
“It’s good to just be able to keep up with everyone else as far as standards go. The toilets were leaking and they flood, so it’s great to be able to put on a great show like we do know the facilities are up to scratch.”
