Moreena Units to get kitchen upgrades
A LITTLE more bench space never goes astray in any kitchen and that’s what some of Moree’s Moreena Units residents are looking forward to, thanks to a $16,200 grant from the State Government.
Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall visited the Moreena Units on Tuesday to deliver the good news to the volunteer management committee and said it was gratifying to see the board of Trustees working so diligently to improve the quality of life of its residents.
“The Moreena Units provide an essential housing service in Moree, giving older people with limited means, a comfortable and friendly lodging place,” Mr Marshall said.
“Over the past few years, the Trustees have been working towards upgrading many of their facilities. This time the grant has been earmarked for new cupboards and bench tops in eight of the resident’s kitchens.
“Four of the kitchens in the older block date back to the 1950s so are well and truly due for an update.
“The refurbished kitchens will be much larger, providing the residents with a lot more bench and cupboard space.”
Mr Marshall said the Trust would also contribute $10,000 to the kitchen project to ensure a job well done.
“The residents are really looking forward to getting their kitchens refurbished, it’s been a long time coming and I’m pleased the State Government is able to contribute to the maintenance costs of these important community assets,” he said.
Mr Marshall said the Northern Tablelands had received $703,041 from the government’s Crown Reserve Improvement Fund for projects across the region.
“It’s a very healthy amount for our region’s crown reserves and I know it will all be put to very good use to improve community spaces and facilities,” he said.
“Public reserves such as sportsgrounds, showgrounds, community halls, aged care facilities, walking tracks and local parks are valued community assets and the NSW Government is committed to ensuring these reserves continue to provide social and economic benefits to the people in our region.”
