Moree to host National Water Skiing Championships over Easter
MOREE Water Park is on its way to becoming known as a world-class facility when it hosts the 2019 National Water Skiing Championships over the Easter long weekend.
The national gala event on water starts on Thursday, April 18 and will be held every day over Easter.
The Moree Water Ski Club last weekend held the NSW championships – a huge success and the perfect lead-up to this long weekend’s nationals.
The long weekend spectacular features the Pro Night Ski on Sunday, April 21 from 6pm until 10pm with a water-ski flip-off, fireworks, barbeque and full bar.
It is free entry for the general public on all days however Sunday night’s spectacular skiing under lights is just $5 per person or $20 per family.
More than 250 competitors from around Australia will vie for national titles at the huge event, which has been boosted by a $3000 donation from Moree Plains Shire Council.
Tournament Water Ski Australia chairman Stafford Scott said all corners of Australia will be represented.
“We are delighted to have competitors from every State represented at these Championships along with a large contingent of officials, family and friends who have travelled from across the country to attend this premier event,” Scott said.
Mayor Katrina Humphries said the Water Park, constructed by Moree Plains Shire Council for community water-based recreational and sports activities, was something that Council knew was right for the Moree Plains community.
“Given the option of evaporation ponds or a water park, there really was no dilemma, and here we are the centre of attention for all to come and see,” Cr Humphries said.

Spectators will see some of Australia’s best water-skiers go head to head and enjoy the numerous food vendors providing an array of fresh food and refreshments.
Entry is free to all events during the day and the weekend will conclude with a fireworks display on Sunday night that has a small cover charge.
“This event would not be possible without the vision, support, and dedicated people of Moree in particular the Moree Plains Council and the Moree Water Ski Club who must all be congratulated,” Scott said.
If your community, sporting or educational group wishes to apply for financial assistance for a local event, function or sponsorship, applications for the period from July-September, 2019 are due on June 14, 2019.

Alternatively they can be collected at Council’s customer service centres at the Max Centre, Moree, Mungindi and Boggabilla, and also at the Moree Community Library.
