Moree to Brisbane flights back in the air from next month

FLY Corporate will launch a regular passenger service between Moree and Brisbane after being granted approval by Moree Plains Shire Council at its Council meeting today.

Fly Corporate CEO Andrew Major said the increase in the Fly Corporate network was an “extremely exciting development which forms part of Fly Corporate’s ongoing commitment to enhance accessibility to and from Australia’s regional communities”.

“This new service also further reinforces Fly Corporate’s recognition of stronger ties between northern NSW cities and towns and Brisbane,” Mr Major said.

“We strongly believe that whether it be for business, education, medical, government or leisure, Brisbane is very much the destination of choice for many travellers from Moree and Narrabri. Replacing a six-hour drive with an approximately 75-minute flight can only help to strengthen these ties.
“Moree and Narrabri travellers will also find Brisbane Airport a superior choice for international travel connections with its lack of congestion and free transfers between domestic and international terminals. Brisbane Airport also offers passengers the ability to easily connect to other domestic destinations particularly in Queensland and Northern Australia.
“We also look forward to welcoming passengers from the wider catchment area such as Wee Waa, Boggabri, Inverell together with more distant locations such as Walgett and Lightning Ridge, who we believe will benefit from this service. The new services will also facilitate access to the Moree and Narrabri districts for visitors and tourists,” Mr Major said.

Acting mayor Sue Price congratulated the company and reinforced the economic benefits to Moree and District.

“This service will improve the ability of residents to access a wider range of capital city services and will be of substantial benefit to Queensland-based firms that operate within the Shire” she said. “Local businesses will also have the opportunity to develop stronger relationships with Queensland-based companies,” Cr Price said.

Fly Corporate, whose parent company Corporate Air has a 44-year history in the aviation industry, has recently commenced services from Coffs Harbour to Brisbane and is also shortly to commence services out of Armidale.Aircraft-Charter_Corporate-Air1_1310x413_acf_cropped

The inclusion of Moree within the growing network is recognition of Moree’s role as a transport hub and economic centre in the north-west.

Director of planning and community development Angus Witherby led the negotiations with Fly Corporate.

“We are very impressed with both the initiative of Fly Corporate and the quality and depth of their proposal,” Mr Witherby said

“This service provides an opportunity to attract people to travel between Brisbane and Sydney via Moree.”

The service also hopes to attract a growing number of international visitors from China who often enter Australia through Queensland and will contribute to the ongoing upward growth of the tourism industry which is strongly linked to Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre (MAAC).

The service will run Monday to Friday and fares are expected to range from a $149 promotional fare through to a fully flexible fare of $388. With federal approval already in place, services are planned to commence on Monday, August 29.

Tickets go on sale this Sunday, July 31 at www.flycorporate.com.au or travel agents with $149 one-way, all-inclusive promotional fares available.
