Moree Christmas at Twilight to light up Ron Harborne Oval

THE cheerful chorus of community carols at Christmas at Twilight returns to Ron Harborne Oval on Friday, December 18.

The alcohol-free community event, starting at 5pm, includes ride and food vendors, Christmas carols and a fireworks display.

To ensure physical distancing is maintained while carolling and queuing for vendors, two fields will be used for the event.

Food and ride vendors will be located on the Western oval, while the band, choirs and carols will take place at its usual location on the cricket oval.

Attendees are asked to enter the cricket oval via the north-eastern gate closest to the club house.

Council Director of Planning and Community Development Angus Witherby said council was delighted to be able to hold the carols event for the community this year, given the COVID-19 climate.

“This COVID-safe event will require all attendees to check in using a QR code that will be displayed on signage at all entry points, vendors and in the carolling booklet,” Mr Witherby said.

“As an incentive to check in, our generous sponsors have provided lucky door prizes that will be awarded to attendees who have checked in, with the winners to be announced on the following Monday on Council’s Facebook page.

“During the carolling, families are welcome to bring picnic blankets and sit together in their households. However, they are reminded to keep physically distant from other family groups. “Council’s COVID safety marshals will assist families in maintaining a one-and-a-half metre distance throughout the event,” he said.

“We are so very pleased to be able to hold this year’s Christmas at Twilight event as we know it has become a family favourite in the lead-up to Christmas.
“But we would really appreciate the assistance of attendees in helping us comply with our registered COVID-safe plan, which has allowed us to stage the event,” Mr Witherby said..

Moree Plains Shire Council and the Moree Community Library will have a marquee on-site, where attendees can collect carolling booklets, participate in children’s craft activities or receive a free children’s or adults book donated by the Library.

Throughout the evening, a number of prizes will also be up for grabs including:

Best dressed boy: $50 Love Local Gift Card

Best dressed girl: $50 Love Local Gift Card

Best dressed family: $150 Love Local Gift Card

Eight lucky door prizes for checking in with the QR code upon entry
