Man dies following double shooting at Coonabarabran

A man has died following a shooting at a Coonabarabran home yesterday.

About 8.45pm (Monday 18 July 2016) police were called to the home following reports of shots fired.

Police found a woman suffering multiple gunshot wounds and a man suffering a single gunshot wound.

Both were airlifted to St George Hospital; however the 57-year-old man died en-route.

The 53-year-old woman remains in a serious condition.

Detectives from Mudgee Local Area Command have established a crime scene at the home and inquiries are continuing.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the theft of five firearms after a break and enter at Dubbo.

Sometime between 8.30am on Friday 15 July 2016 and 2pm on Monday 18 July 2016, unknown person/s broke into a house on Oakdene Road, Dubbo.

During the break and enter, the entire gun safe and its contents were stolen, including five registered firearms.

They include two 12 gauge Beretta shotguns, a CMC .222 rifle, a Stirling rim fire .22 rifle, a Harrington single-barrel shotgun and ammunition.

Officers from Orana Local Area Command are continuing their inquiries and are appealing for anyone who may have any information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
