Humphries applauds decision to reverse greyhound racing ban
Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries today released a media statement, applauding the decision to reverse the greyhound racing ban:
“As announced earlier, the NSW Liberals and Nationals government has made a decision to reverse the Greyhound Racing Ban in NSW.
This decision was made after extensive consultation with industry and within the party.
I applaud all members of the Coalition government, in particular Mike Baird and Troy Grant, for listening to the electorate and taking a common sense approach to the management of the greyhound industry.
The decision to reverse the ban is proof that the Nationals will not pander to outspoken minorities who lack an understanding of animal based industries.
Rather than setting a precedent which could have potentially devastating impacts on all animal industries, this decision cements our support of rural jobs and way of life.
Importantly, we will not be watering down our stance on animal cruelty, but will ensure the greyhound industry can continue with a clear commitment to animal welfare.
I look forward to working with the industry and my party colleagues to facilitate a viable, sustainable greyhound racing industry that allows the honest, ethical breeders and trainers to continue doing what they love.
I’d like to thank the electorate for the overwhelming support I have received on what has been a difficult issue.”
