Creating a youthful vision of Moree’s future
Moree Plains Shire Council is looking for inspired young people to “paint, draw or create a collage” of their version”of Moree Plains’ future.
Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting manager, Libby Carter explained that Council is currently putting together the community’s plan for the future and is providing ways for all sectors of the community to Speak Up about their vision for the Moree Plains.
“We have a new Council who are genuinely interested in the community’s ideas and this project is aimed at provoking discussion with the young people of our Shire,” Mrs Carter said.
“With art, children and teens can tell us their vision for Moree Plains Shire in 2027 through fresh eyes.
“While we are calling it an art competition, it will be judged on how well the artist captures the essence of the competition (ie: the theme) not necessarily the skill of the artist,” she said.
Original art entries (accompanied by the entry form) must be submitted to Council at its Customer Service Centres in Moree, Mungindi or Boggabilla (or by post) by 5pm Friday, 10 March 2017. Entry forms can be found on Council’s website or at its Customer Service Centres.
Over the next few months, Council will be providing plenty of opportunities for community members to Speak Up and share with us your ideas and aspirations for our Shire as we review our current Community Strategic Plan. Your ideas will help guide our new Councillors in developing their priorities for the next four years.
In the coming months, we encourage community members to get involved:
• Complete a SURVEY
• Attend our COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS
• Register for a FOCUS GROUP MEETING
• Encourage your kids to participate in our SCHOOL-AGED ART COMPETITION
“It really is the time to Speak Up Moree Plains to provide Councillors with guidance in putting together the community’s plan for the future,” Mrs Carter said.
