Council assessing sewer conditions
MOREE Plains Shire Council is continuing inspections, risk assessment and maintenance of the sewer manholes throughout Moree to assess the condition of these assets.
The sewer assessments are being done as part of council’s asset-management strategy to better understand the overall condition of the sewerage mains.
It allows council, through the use of closed circuit television (CCTV), to identify issues and maintenance requirements and therefore prioritise resources across the network to provide reliable sewerage infrastructure for the community.
By adopting a more strategic approach to maintenance council says it will reduce unplanned maintenance requests including after-hours call-outs and the associated inconvenience for community members.
In addition, by undertaking maintenance activities on a more planned basis the overall annual maintenance cost of these assets will reduce over time.
Council’s water services manager Roland Heatley says the asset management initiatives are a proactive management measure.
“Some of the asset management initiatives we are currently implementing will provide us with a better snapshot of the overall condition of the sewerage mains in Moree,” Mr Heatley said.
“This will identify issues with the lines earlier so a bit of maintenance intervention will avoid the need for a full renewal.”
Council has assured residents that the investigation and cleaning work will not impact on services to homes or businesses.
“Traffic and pedestrian access will be managed to allow work to proceed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” A MPSC media release said.
