Coles Moree edges out Woolies to win prestigious Essential Business Appreciation Award

COLES Supermarket Moree has been awarded the Moree Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down! Essential Business Appreciation Award for April – beating retail rival Woolworths Moree by just a handful of votes.

Team members at both supermarkets have gone that extra aisle during the COVID-19 health crisis however Coles Moree took home the prestigious award with 205 votes, just edging our Woolworths Moree with 198 votes.

Coles Moree was nominated for the monthly award by Lollie Phelps.

“Coles’ staff members have gone above and beyond to provide outstanding customer service to our community,” Lollie said.

“I have always been greeted with a warm friendly smile and chat when being served or when asking for help with a product while instore.”

Coles Moree manager Fran Moore thanked Lollie for the nomination and the Moree community for voting for the local supermarket.

“We want to say ‘thank-you’ to the community for voting for our store/team. We would also like to say thanks to Lollie for the recognition by nominating us,” she said.

Coles Moree team members Damien Curtis, Brayden Marlow, store manager Fran Moore, Ryan Whillas, Heather Roberts, Julie Harris, Jesse Lee Harris, Melanie Collins, Brenda Nash, Emily Hann, Monique Stevens, Angela Halliger, Tayla Mills, Tania Girard and Tammy MacMillan.

“I am very proud of the team’s effort and commitment during these extremely difficult and unprecedented times. Well done to all the businesses in retail and essential services in our town. It means a lot to the team to be recognised by our customers within our community.”

Fran expressed how challenging it has been at times for the Moree Coles staff during the recent and current restrictions, saying some difficulties occurred due to bulk-buying by customers, which left the stores shelves empty.

This then affected some the out-of-town customers who only shop once a fortnight or monthly. Some customers also expected to buy more than the restricted amounts that were put on certain items.

“Our customer service team went above and beyond to give our customers the best service they could provide given the circumstances, and will continue to do so,” Fran said.

Voting for the May 2020 Essential Business Award is now open and closes Sunday, May  at 12-midday.
