Car lovers’ mecca and Fathers’ Day Moree Markets – the biggest day out in town

IT is the biggest day of the year at Jellicoe Park in Moree and it’s on tomorrow, Fathers’ Day.

The Moree Markets is always a huge day out for hundreds of Moree residents and visitors and tomorrow’s market day is traditionally the biggest of them all, with the Moree Show and Shine Motor Expo filling Jellicoe Park to absolute capacity.

It’s a car lover’s mecca that draws visiting exhibitors display everything from vintage vehicles to hot rods, motorcycles, mud bombs, trucks, tractors, motorbikes and sometimes, even planes.

The day will also draw thousands of people from across the region.

And Moree Plains Shire Council has supported the Moree Motor Enthusiast Club with a $1600 contribution towards the cost of hosting the huge gala day.

The Moree Show and Shine Motor Expo runs in conjunction with the Fathers’ Day Jellicoe Park Markets, renowned as the biggest markets of the year, with enthusiasts travelling from Sydney and interstate.

Thousands more are expected to visit from around the north-west.

Moree Motor Enthusiast Club president Sonia Rowe said in a recent Moree Plains Shire Council media release that the event was getting bigger and bigger each year.

“The event continues to grow each year and is a great way to spend Fathers’ Day morning,” she said.

“This year, we are very excited to host the Newcastle Enthusiasts who are displaying JAG vehicles.

“We thank Council for its donation which we have used to positively promote the Moree Plains area and the Show and Shine Expo through social media and television.

“We hope this coverage will bring an influx of people into the area helping local business in difficult times.

“We would also like to thank the local businesses for their contributions of dealer and trade displays at the event, making it a great all-round day of displays and attractions for everybody,” she said.

Jellicoe Park will also swell to capacity with market stalls selling a huge variety of goods – and Deluxe Café Moree will be right there in the middle of it all.

After the engines have died down and stall-holders have packed everything away, visitors and locals are encourages to attend the Moree Race Club’s biggest meeting of the year, featuring the 1400m Pacific National Moree Cup and 950m Rescue Helicopter Moree Town Plate.
