BAMM! Entries close soon for the Bank Art Moree Museum Portrait Prize

The deadline for entries to Bank Art Moree Museum’s upcoming Moree Portrait Prize has been extended.

Artists now have until 5pm Friday, November 9, to submit artworks to BAMM.

The Moree Portrait Prize is open to all ages and artworks in all media.

BAMM director Vivien Clyne is looking forward to seeing what local artists produce for the prize’s second instalment.

“Last year we had over 90 entries to the competition and awarded artists $2500 worth of cash prizes across five categories,” Ms Clyne said.

A particularly popular aspect of the competition is the under 12s’ and under 18s’ prizes.

“We are so glad to be able to offer prizes for children and teens,” she said.

“Last year the competition was well supported by local schools and we’d love to see even more entries from students in 2018.

“It’s a fantastic way to encourage young people to get creative.”

The exhibition will open on Friday, November, 23 and run until Christmas, with a People’s Choice category – sponsored by Rhodes Kildea Lawyers – running for the duration of the exhibition.

“The exhibition will run for more than a month so people have plenty of time to vote for their favourite artwork,” Ms Clyne said.

“Last year we had over 250 people vote for the People’s Choice Prize, which was won by local artist Amy Canfield.”

This year The Moree Portrait Prize is supported by a range of sponsors including Rhodes Kildea, Moree Plains Shire Council and Irritek.

“With the support of Irritek we are able to offer a new prize category the Irritek Local Prize, awarded to artists living within the Moree Plains Shire,” Ms Clyne said.

“I’m really excited to see local businesses supporting the arts and encouraging creativity within their community.

“We are grateful to all our sponsors who are stepping up to sponsor BAMM, even at this time of drought.

“It shows the depth of community spirit and pride in our region,” she said.
