Potential MPSC councillors information session next week
MEMBERS of the public interested in standing as a councillor at the forthcoming local government elections are invited to an informal information evening at 5.30pm next Monday, August 1 at Moree Plains Shire Council Chambers in the Max Centre on Balo Street.
General manager Lester Rodgers and deputy mayor Sue Price will host the evening and provide an insight into political life as an elected member and the roles and responsibilities of councillors in the community.
“Moree Plains Shire Council serves a very diverse community and the information session provides prospective candidates with the opportunity to come along and ask questions about becoming a councillor and learn how this role shapes the community now and into the future,” Mr Rodgers said.
Individuals who are elected at the local government elections on Saturday, September 10 will receive council-based training and other support to help them understand and be successful in the role.
Council will meet some expenses including training, conferences and travel, and provide tools such as telephones and office equipment to use for council business.
Council provides support to help councillors who have a disability or other special needs. To recognise what councillors do for their community, individuals receive an annual fee, paid monthly, from council.
To attend the informal information session for prospective candidates with Lester Rodgers and Cr Sue Price, please RSVP to Laura by 10am Monday, August 1 at [email protected].
